Houston Style Magazine was on the scene for the H-Town Beatdown. BBVA Compass Stadium held the first concert thanks to Houston’s new radio station 93.7 The Beat and it did not disappoint. With artists like Future, Kendrick Lamar, and J. Cole on one stage, how could you miss this show?
My favorites were J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar because I listen to them the most, but everyone who performed fed off the crowd’s energy. Shoutout to Houston’s new radio station 93.7 The Beat for putting on an amazing show.
Location:BBVA Compass Stadium
Concert Lineup: Tory Lanez, Trae the Truth, Slim Thug, Z-Ro, Paul Wall, Meek Mill, J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Trey Songz, and Future.
Highs: J. Cole. This was my first time seeing J. Cole live and was really good. The crowd brought the energy and he reciprocated it on stage.
Lows: Definitely the photo pit looking like bottle section at a nightclub. Waaaaay too many “fauxtographers” and friends/roadies of rappers with their camera phones and taking selfies to do it for The Gram. Another low was I had recently bought a 180mm 2.8 lens so I was thinking it was gravy to shoot with it because it’s a 2.8. The quality part of having a 180mm prime lens was not a problem. The limited range while tracking rappers movement on stage was not what’s up, but I still got some pretty good shots. Shoutouts: 93.7 the Beat Houston’s all new radio station.
